Estudo da sexualidade das idosas com doença de Alzheimer leve

Abstract

This study aimed to understand the sexuality of elderly with Alzheimer's disease and Mild manifestations, through the perception of the elderly themselves and their caregivers on this topic. To achieve it, we carried out a survey parameterized by Qualitative Epistemology, and a convenience sample consisting of three elderly and their caregivers, who voluntarily participated in the study after indication of the health team of Joint Health Unit Wansbeck (UMST) , Federal District. Data collection was carried out between December 2012 and April 2013, when they were held at least five meetings with the elderly and their caregivers in UMST and in their homes. At these meetings, there were two semi-structured interviews (one with the elderly and with other caregivers), and applied the tools of Qualitative Epistemology which is an interactive tool using both projective techniques of cutting and pasting or drawing and photo technique of elderly. The results in line with the constructive-interpretative methodology, which fits our research, the interpretation of the associated reports and projective techniques built indicators relevant to understanding the sexuality of older participants. We realize, therefore, that even with Alzheimer's disease, sexuality is a topic of interest that is present in the lives of the women interviewed. They revealed that sexuality continues in old age, and the disease is not prevented them from maintaining sexual desire, despite recognizing changes in their "performance" by the partner. The expression of sexuality has changed, but the intimate affection and love remained present. Perception of caregivers, sexual desire and affection remain present in the lives of elderly, however, feel that they are uneasy spontaneously talk about this issue with your family and friends. But when they are due to speak on the topic of sexuality, do not avoid placing about. Thus, we conclude that Alzheimer's disease in mild stage does not prevent the experience of sexuality of older, direct it only seems to be experienced as an opportunity, the desire and the availability of those involved, but does not impose abstinence, which can not be stated in the remaining stages of the disease. It is suggested the inclusion of this theme in the services offered to the elderly with mild Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.
